Prerequisite: Sm’algyax 8
This course will build upon the grade 8 Sm’algyax course. Students will add to their knowledge of the structure of Sm’algyax as they practice using the language in simulated everyday life situations. Listening and speaking skills will continue to be the primary focus with increased emphasis on writing and reading Sm’algyax.
Prerequisite Sm’algyax 9B
This course will build upon the structural aspect of the language, enhancing students’ understanding of grammar and use of everyday language. Students will be introduced to the present tense, demonstrating their understanding through the creation of short stories. Students will engage in total physical response, furthering their abilities to listen and give commands in Sm’algyax. Students will be evaluated on their story project, weekly assignments, exams and participation.
Prerequisite Sm’algyax 10 (at least a C+ recommended)
This course will be a continuation of Sm’algyax 10 with an emphasis on verbal communication, while also developing students’ abilities to listen, read and write in Sm’algyax. This will be achieved through the study and retelling of our Ts’msyen Adaawx. Students will present visual and written projects while providing the narration in Sm’algyax. Students will also further advance their grammar and use of everyday language, learning to create sentences using the future and past tenses. Students will be evaluated on their Adaawx retelling, weekly assignments, exams and participation.
