2025 Youth Bursary Program – Laskeek Bay Conservation Society Haida Gwaii
Hello, we are pleased to be offering the Youth Bursary Program once again, for field science experience at our Haida Gwaii based research station on East Limestone Island.
The Laskeek Bay Conservation Society (LBCS) is a small non-profit organization conducting seabird and cetacean research and monitoring on Haida Gwaii. We run a field station each May-July, and we welcome volunteers, students, and interns to assist our Biologists with our field science activities. We have been in operation for 36 years.
We are offering a bursary for a 1-4 week Internship at our field station for one resident of north-coast, central-northern, or mid-coast BC.
$3,000 Bursary value; $1500 to cover the internship fee, and $1500 to assist with travel expenses and logistics.
Intern activities include:
- Collecting and managingfield biology data
- Identifying a large variety of birds, marine mammals, and plants
- Assist in delivering environmental education programs to Haida Gwaii youth
- Living and working in a remote coastal field biology camp, sharing the duties of day-to-day tasks
Requirements:
- Youth aged 18+
- Interest in research on seabirds, marine mammals, and/or coastal ecology
- Student of Biology, Marine Sciences, Resource Management, Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Restoration, Outdoor Education, or related discipline, or intention to study one of the above
- Physically fit, able to work long days outdoors in remote, rugged terrain, with supervision and mentorship provided by certified LBCS staff

- Successful applicants will be contacted for an interview via Zoom.
The successful candidate will sign a contract and show booking receipts to receive the travel assistance funding. LBCS staff are available to help with travel information, but youth will need to make their own travel bookings and arrangements.
