What is the UBC Summer Science Program?

The Summer Science Program is an Indigenous-led one-week cultural, health, and science program for Indigenous students entering grades 9-12 in the Fall, September 2025. The SSP promotes interest in health and science programs for high schoolers through firsthand experience at the University of British Columbia’s Vancouver campus, with most programming taking place at the First Nations House of Learning.

It’s a great opportunity for youth to meet their peers and connect with Elders and Indigenous student staff. Participating students stay in first year dorms at the University of British Columbia and participate in cultural and health/STEM-related workshops throughout the week.

Some examples of cultural workshops include drum making, medicine bag crafting, and evening Talking Circles. Science and health workshops include a virtual reality medicine lab, a stem cell workshop, and a career fair. There’s also an opportunity for students to explore campus.
